"Dorothy E. (Thompson) Gruis

Dorothy E. (Thompson) Gruis, 88, of Buffalo Center, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. A funeral service was held Tuesday, November 25 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in BuffaloCenter, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Ruth Ann Milbrandt was the organist, with special music provided by Troy Kettwick.

Dorothy E. Gruis was born April 26, 1926 to Edward and Eva (Davis) Thompson. She went to country school and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1945. On March 17, 1947 she was married to Herman Gruis, Jr. at the Lutheran Churchin Buffalo Center. To this union were born five children. Dorothy farmed and milded cows with Herman in rural Buffalo Center for many years, and she worked at Winnebago Industries for 12 years before retiring. In December of 1990,Dorothy and Herman moved to Buffalo Center, where they were members of the First Reformed Church. Dorothy enjoyed working at Mr. K's, having coffee time and playing cards with friends and neighbors, and was a member of Ruth Circle.

Dorothy is survived by: children, Patricia (Roger) Meyer of Latimer, Donald (Linda) Gruis of Buffalo Center, Dean (Jeanne) Gruis of Ankeny, and Dale (Dawn) Gruis of Indianola; grandchildren, Jodi (Wayne) Hormann, Rhonda (Jody) Niehaus,Shari Gruis, Jason Gruis, Kelli (Verne) Hecker, Derek Gruis, Nathan Gruis, and Cole Gruis; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Garrett Hormann and Tyler and Trever Niehaus; aunts and uncles, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband, Herman; daughter, Beverly; her parents; her brothers Edwin and Williard; and a granddaughter, Jessica Gruis.

"Dorothy Gruis (Died November 22, 2014) ... Dorothy Gruis, 88 of Buffalo Center died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:00 pm Monday at Winter Funeral Home and also 1 hour before the services at the church.
