Obituary of Herman Gruis, Sr.

Herman Gruis, Sr. son of Berand and Gennie Gruis was born August 27, 1882 at Cleves, Iowa. While still a child he moved with his parents and family to a farm south of Buffalo Center.

On March 22, 1911 he was united in marriage to Grace Mienders. To this union six children were Born, namely: Jennie (deceased), Mrs Herman (Wyona) Harms of Titonka, Mrs Edgar (Jennie) Ricks of Buffalo Center, Ben of Buffalo Center, JrsJames (Dorothy) Rippentrop of Titonka, and Herman, Jr. of Buffalo Center.

Mr Gruis became a member of the Ramsey Reformed Church of Titonka and maintained his membership there faithfully until the time of his death. He served in the church consistory as a deacon.

Mr Gruis was called from this earthly life on Thursday, May 25, 1961 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one daughter.

Mourning his passing are his wife, five children, 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother, Bert, and one sister, Minnie, of Titonka, as well as relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held Monday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the house, and following at the Ramsey REformed Church, with Rev. William Kroon in charge.

Burial was in Ramsey Cemetery with Fred Krull, George Heyer, Harm Risius, Bennie Limberg, Arend Swalve and Mike Pederson serving as pallbearers." <>
