'Harry Boekelman May 8, 1911 - December 25, 1998 ...

Brookings, SD - Harry Boekelman, 87, died Friday, Dec. 25 (1998), in the Brookings Hospital.

Funeral service for him was held in the First United Methodist Church at Brookings at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, the Rev. Teri Johnson officiating.

A second service will be held in the First Presbyterian Church at Algona at 10:30 a.m. Today (Thursday), the Rev. David Ullom officiating. Visitation at the church prior to the service.

Burial is in Riverview Cemetery at Algona with military graveside rites conducted by Hagg-Turner Post 90 of the American Legion.

Harry, son of Andrew and Dena Sleper Boekelman, was born May 8,m 1911 at Buffalo Center. He received his education at Buffalo Center and served with the United States Army from October of 1942 until he was discharged in February, 1944.After serving with the military, Harry was a farm laborer for several years.

He was married to Dagney Hildman Oct. 21, 1954 at Algona.

Harry worked as a diesel mechanic for Joe Bradley Implement 35 years. Dagney died Feb. 8, 1973.

Harry was married to Florence Friedel Nielsen, Aug. 25, 1973 and they continued to live in Iowa until moving to Brookings, SD in February, 1988.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Algona and Sterling United Methodist Church at Brookings, and a more than 50-year member of Hagg-Turner Post 90 of the American Legion at Algona.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; a step-daughter, Judy and Thomas Chaulsett, Brookings, SD and a step-son, Earl Hildman, Omaha, NE. Harry has a granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Also surviving are two sisters, Gertrude Winter and Rozella Hagen, both of Algona. His first wife, parents, a sister, Henrietta and brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Merlilyn Boekelman, preceded him in death '
