"Gertrude D. Winter October 22, 1912 - November 3, 2001

ALGONA - Gertrude Dorothy Winter, 89, died at the Good Samaritan Center in Algona on Saturday, Nov. 3 (2001). Funeral services for her were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the First Presbyterian Church in Algona, with the Rev. DaveUllom officiating. Casketbearers included Tony Droessler, Mike Boekelman, the Rev. Tim Boekelman, Robin Zimmerman, Jim Zimmerman, and Ed Droessler. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery at Lakota. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf was incharge of arrangements.

Gertrude was born Oct. 22, 1912, at Buffalo Center, the daughter of Andrew and Dena (Sleper) Boekelman. She attended school at Titonka. On Dec. 30, 1931, Gertrude was married to Russell Erwin Winter at the Presbyterian Church in Lakota.The couple lived on a farm near Lakota. After Russell died on April 11, 1985, Gertrude continued living on the farm until 1987, when she moved to Algona. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Algona in August 1993.

Gertrude was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lakota since 1932, and it was there that she was ordained deacon in 1980. She transferred her membership to Algona in 1987. Gertrude was a member of the Presbyterian Women of theChurch and the Ledyard Township Homemakers Club, where she was president for six years. She was also a member of the birthday club. She enjoyed crocheting and reading, and she made her own clothes at one time.

Survivors include her son, Larry (and Eleanor) Winter of Belle Vista, Ark., two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rozella Hagen of Algona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Henrietta Boekelman and two brothers, Albert and Harry."
