Gray, Alvin A. (28 NOV 1923 - 10 NOV 2010)

Alvin A. Gray, 86, formerly of Chili, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at the Golden LivingCenter-Three Oaks in Marshfield. He had been under the care of Ministry Home Hospice Care Services.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Chili, with the Rev. Sally Rendell officiating. Burial will be in Yolo Cemetery, town of Fremont.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rembs Funeral Home and again Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Alvin was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Titonka, Iowa, to Arnold and Sadie (Huisman) Gray.

He was united in marriage to Irene M. Rippentrop at the Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka, Iowa, on March 23, 1944. Irene passed away on May 7, 2007.

After their marriage, he farmed with his brother Lester on the Gray farm near Titonka, Iowa, and raised registered hogs. In 1959, they moved to Chili, where they continued dairy farming until their retirement in the early 1990s.

Alvin belonged to the Clark County Farm Bureau and was a supervisor for the town of Fremont. He taught Sunday School at Immanuel and was involved in other church and community affairs. He enjoyed time with family and friends, playing softball, board games and deer hunting. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by his children, Virginia (Norman) Kommer Jr. of Marshfield, Victor (Vicki) Gray of Greenwood, Douglas (Jeanne) Gray of Marshfield, Randy (Janell) Gray of Watertown, Roberta (Dale) Tesky of Mosinee and Dean (Dan Wilch) Gray of New York; 16 grandchildren, James (Amy) Kommer, Debbie (Jeff) Klabunde, Robin (Steve) Meyer, Tammi (Joe) Schwabe, Jonalee (Chris) Buckel, Melody Gray, Matthew Gray, Amber Gray, Alex Gray, Michelle (Rich) Firnstahl, Adam Gray, John (Jennifer) Gray, Ryan Gray, Aric (Lynley) Gray, Joel (Amanda) Tesky and Kyle Tesky; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was further survived by two brothers, Lloyd Gray of Rockford, Ill., and Larry (Kathleen) Gray of Woodbury, Minn.; three sisters, Arlene Rafdal of Algona, Iowa, Lois (Marvin) Behrendt of Tenino, Wash., and Dorothy (Meint) Huesman of Titonka, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Iola Gray of Kanawha, Iowa.

Besides his parents and wife, Irene, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Vernon and Lester Gray.
