"Andrew "Andy" Winter, 84
Funeral services for Andrew Winter, 84, were held Tuesday, December 18 at the First Reformed Church with Pastor Bill Peake and Pastor Charles Westendorf officiating. Music was furnished by soloist, Jesse Christenson and Warren Feldick,with Mariene Krull as organist. Honorary bearers were George Jensvold, Bill Jensvold, Kim O'Connor, Augie Baumann, Larry Main, Bob Hanson, Lyle Hippen and Mike Kettwick. Casketbearers were Duane Johnson, Warren Lenz, Justin Gasteiger,Dan Christ, Arien O'Brian and Mike Baumann. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery with the Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center in charge of arrangements. Andy passed away on Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Titonka Care Center.
Andrew Winter, son of Ubbe J. an dHermena (Sleper) Winter, was born on July 13, 1923 on the family farm north of Buffalo Center. Andrew attended country school at Lincoln # 4 and then worked on the Miller Stock Farm for seven and a halfyears. He worked at Jensvold's Implement for many years and the last years at Northern Implement and Main Equipment, for a total of 42 years.
Andrew married Ihla White of Beatrice, Nebraska in December of 1948. One son, Steven waqs born in November of 1949. Ihla died in October of 1951, and Steven died on December 22, 1954.
Andrew and Ruth Tolzmann were married September 20, 1954. Together they raised Ruth's three children: Dennis, Deb, and Darrell Tolzmann.
Andrew was very active in his community. He was a longtime member of the First Reformed church in Buffalo Center, serving as Deacon, Elder, and Usher. Andrew was a member of the Buffalo Center Volunteer Fire Department for 34 years andserved many years as Assistant Fire Chief. He also belonged to the Buffalo Center Lions Club.
Andrew's heart was always on the farm. After his retirement, he enjoyed working for the Baumann family farm. Andy also enjoyed woodworking, bowling and throwing horseshoes. Since 1976, he threw in league competition and has won manytrophies as well as being named Minnesota's 'Player of the Year' and also receiving the 'Good Sportmanship Award.' In 2002 Andy played in the Iowa Games in Ames receiveng the Gold medal in his age bracket.
In November, Andy became a resident of the Titonka Care Center, where he departed from this life on Friday, December 14, at the age of 84.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife of 54 years, Ruth; his children: Dennis and his wife, Debbie, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Deb Tolzmann of Estherville; and Darrrell and his wife, Vicki, of Effingham, Illinois; his eightgrandchildren: Amy, Mark, Laura, Andrew, Kelli, Jennifer, Matthew and Christina; his six great-grandchildren: Megan, Drake, Jenna, Brynn, Aiden and Ethan; two sisters: Marge Miller of Des Moines; Minnie Walker and her husband, Merlin ofAlgona; two brothers: twin brother George and his wife Evelyn, of Buffalo Center; Lawrence and his wife, Carmen, of Stewartville, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, cousins and several dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents,his first wife Ihla, son Steven; brothers Edward and John, a sister-in-law June Winter, a brother-in-law Merle Miller, and a niece Sharon Miller."
