Jacob was waarschijnlijk vernoemd naar de grootvader van zín moeder: Jacob Parlevliet (kapitein ter koopvaardij). Hij was metselaar in de zaak van zijn vader, werd later mede-eigenaar van het bouwbedrijf van de Gebrs. Verloop (1932 tot na 1946) en was later zelfstandig aannemer. Rondom 1920 werkte hij in het Groot Badhotel en aanliggend Paviljoen aan de Boulevard, in eigendom van zijn vader. Woonde op Zeeweg 18 en later Buitensluisstraat 4.
