Willem was vernoemd naar Willem Kruyt, een oudere broer van zijn moeder die op jonge leeftijd (22) op zee was omgekomen. Hij werkte aanvankelijk in de zaak van zijn vader. Later was hij technisch hoofdambtenaar bij de Dienst Gemeentewerken te Katwijk, met een diensttijd van 35 jaar. Hij was voorzitter van de Regenten van het Ned. Herv. Gasthuis. Woonde op de noord-Boulevard.
