Obituary from the Boyden Reporter, July 6, 1922: (Rev. Dirk Scholten, stone is in the Nassau Township Cemetery. A source believes thatRev Dirk came to give his father's funeral.)
"Mr. & Mrs. G. J. Scholten, son W. K. Scholten and wife, and son Joe drove down from Corsica, S.D. in two cars Monday to attend the funeral of Mr. Scholten's brother, Rev. D. Scholten, held Tuesday. They expected to return this Friday or Saturday. The Scholtens have scores of friends at Alton, having made their home here since 1875 until about 18 years ago when they moved to South Dakota where they have done well. "- Alton Democrat.

Derk Scholten served as a missionary and or pastor to the following churches:
PrarrieView KS, 1886-91; Muscatine, IA 1891-1896; South Blendon, MI, 1896-1908; Edgerton MN, 1908-1910; Valley Springs MN 1717-1719.
The Valley Springs Reformed Church was organized by area families and Missionary Dick Scholten in 1917. The church is currently bring served by Rev. Mark Farris. To contact the church, call the office at 757-6841.
