Jan Baptist Maria van Besouw, geboren te Goirle op 4 oktober 1861 en aldaar overleden op 26 augustus 1939. Zijn ouders waren Gerardus van Besouw, textielfabrikant en wethouder, en Johanna van de Lisdonk. Jan was fabrikant en directeur van de N.V. Stoomweverijen Van Besouw. Hij trouwde te Goirle op 13 september 1886 met Elisabeth M.L. van den Heuvel en hertrouwde in dezelfde plaats op 6 augustus 1920 met Johanna Maria Vromans.
In 1899 vierde priester Gisbert Brom zijn koperen priesterjubileum in hotel Berg en Dal bij Nijmegen en bij die gelegenheid stelde hij aan zijn gasten voor om ieder jaar een keer bij elkaar te komen. Dat gebeurde de volgende jaren in hotel Klarenbeek aan de Velperweg in Arnhem; vandaar de naam Klarenbeekse Club. De club werd niet geconstitueerd, omdat de bisschop er dan waarschijnlijk zijn goedkeuring aan moest geven en dr. Schaepman, geen vriend van Brom, mogelijk als geestelijk adviseur zou worden aangewezen. Het gemengde karakter van de club -leken en geestelijken- was niet normaal voor die tijd en daarom is de club in 1909 waarschijnlijk ontbonden. Op de bijeenkomsten werden lezingen gehouden over actuele onderwerpen, bijvoorbeeld de sociale kwestie. Door fabrikant Vlekke werd de Goirlese fabrikant Jan van Besouw geïntroduceerd. In 1901 waren zij de enige fabrikanten in deze club. Op de foto drie leden van de Klarenbeekse Club v.l.n.r. Jan Baptist van Besouw, textielfabrikant te Goirle, aldaar geboren in 1861 en er overleden in 1939, priester Gisbert Brom, hoofdredacteur van dagblad 'Het Centrum', en Jan Frederik Vlekke, geboren te Steenbergen in 1849, in 1873 boekhouder van de Gastelse Beetwortelen-Suikerfabriek en in 1881 directeur van deze fabriek tot aan zijn dood in 1903. Zowel Van Besouw als Vlekke waren zeer sociaal geïnspireerde werkgevers.
