    Notes about Dick Albert DeJong

Dick was the third and middle child of Pieter and Anna Ten Bosch DeJong. As an adult Dick went to the courthouse and changed the name from the Dutch spelling, DeJong, to the English spelling DeYoung for the whole family (except his parents who never Americanized their last name).

When Dick was 4 years old his mother died giving birth to sister, Anna. April 6, 1892 Dick's father married Della Vanderbeek, then in 1895 moved the family to Prairie View KS when Dick was 10 years old.

June 10, 1914 Dick married Ella Gertrude Walker. To this union three children were born, Ivalee, Warren and Leon. Unfortunately, Ivalee only lived about 6 months.

Dick was a cashier at the Prairie View Bank owned by the Wiltrouts of Logan KS. In about 1925, he left the bank and bought a farm west of Prairie View. During retirement time, he worked at the Post Office and was also a mail carrier.
