JS died at the hospital in Milbank of a heart attack.

JS is buried in Canby Cem. according to Robert Kent, but he and his wife are buried in Milbank, SD city cem. according to Kathy Johnson. KOWJ reverified Milbank as place of burial with data from Jennie Vissers.

"John Sleeper retired in 1942. These Sleepers farmed where now stand the Blue Cloud Abby by Marvin, S.D."

"They had farmed at Gary, S.D. Deuel County until 1926 when coming to Grant County."

"On John Baptizmal certificate he is JanSleper."

"I will send more as I get it have clues but no facts as of yet 1-26-92"

Jan told his daughter, Jennie, "... when his parents came to US, their name used to be Johnson, but some body changed it? who? God only knows, & I have my parents marriage cert. [Jan & Jennie], they had a double wedding Uncle Albert & Aunt Lilly signed their certificate & Uncle Alert signed Sleper, that way. But I suppose they had a wedding cert. & Mom dad signed theirs, I guess? But I see the minister or whoever, typed it in Sleaper. they were wed, 24 day of Nov1915 in Slear Lake S.D. Moms name spelled Jannie Cooper."

"Rites set for John Sleaper age 80 for Thursday Dec. 19, 1968. He died Dec. 15, 1968. Burial in Milbank City Cemetery.

Born May 3, 1888 at Grundy Center, Iowa Son of Henry and Annie L Meyers Sleaper. He married Jennie Emma Kuper on Nov. 24, 1915 at Clear Lake, S.D. Mrs Sleaper Died Sept. 23, 1966. The couple lived in Iowa and Gary, S.D. and moving toTwin Brooks, S.D. and later in 1961 to Milbank.

He was a farmer and a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Survived by daughters Annie (Mrs. Wilbur) Ladge. Jennie (Mrs. George) Vissers. Sons Peter J Sleaper and Avert Sleaper also 5 sisters. Mrs. Claus (Deana) Martins, Mrs. Toll (Harmka) Simons Mrs. Howard Winrow all of Clear Lake, S.D. alsoMrs. Carl (Gertie) Knutson of Brandt, S. D.''

Mrs. Hull writes, "HAD DOUBLE WEDDING WITH BRO.ALBERT AND WIFE. FARMED AT GARY S.D. UNTIL 1926-- MOVED TO GRANT CO. AND FARMED UNTIL 1942 WHEN HE RETIRED. MEMBER OF REFORMED CHURCH. BIRTH-D.A.V. STATES TITONKA, KOSSUTH CO., IA. FARMTHEY FARMED IS NOW WHERE BLUE CLOUD ABBY IS AT MARVIN, SD. NAME USE TO BE JOHNSON AND SOMEONE CHANGED IT (TOLD TO DAUGHTER JENNIE."
