Age 39. Children in the Henry & Harmke Freerks home: Hilke 16y - German-born Dina 12y - German-born Hauke 0y - Kossuth Co., IA-born

Harmka had two husbands, Mr. Peters(or Mr. Groun) and Henry Freerks (or Frericks). Could Groun be spelt Groen?

The next family is headed by Hugo Freerks.

6 June 1900 German Twp., Kossuth Co., IA Census: Harmke's two daughters, Albertina Peters by her first marriage, and Hauke? Freerks by her second marriage are listed living with Henry & Harmke; however, Harmke is reported as having givenbirth to two children & that only one is alive 6 June 1900. Is it possible that Albertina Peters, listed as a step-daughter of Henry Freerks is also a step daughter of Harmke? Perhaps Mr. Peters was married prior to his marriage toHarmke Sleper. His daughter, Albertina, may be from his first marriage. Of course, the enumerator could be mistaken about the numbers.

Another possibility is that the first number, two, was understood by Henry or Harmke to mean the number of living children. If a child died in infancy, then the total for Harmke would be three.
