Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent Engelby, age 92 of Albert Lea will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2019 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church. Fr Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be in St Theodore's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Vincent died on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at his home in Albert Lea.

Vincent was born December 12, 1926 in Frost, MN. He was the son of Andy and Vollie (Bjelland) Engelby. He was a graduate of Kiester High School. He joined the United States Army in May 22, 1946. He was a Private First Class, Regiment Army. He play 2nd trombone in the 24th Infantry Division while stationed at Beppu, Japan, Kyushu Island. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1947.

Vincent married Kathryn Mary Doocy on November 9, 1948 in Ledyard, IA. Their witnesses were Georgia and Carlyle. She passed away on their 67th wedding anniversary. Vincent was a jack of all trades, master of many, self taught at all of them. He was a very honest, admirable, and intelligent man. Vince never forgot a name or a date. His mind never left him. Everyone will remember his firm handshake and his deep belly laugh. He is our very unique antique.

He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Albert Lea Moose Lodge in which he was extremely dedicated. He spent many hours fixing and remodeling the lodge. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He could always find someone he knew.

His children and grandchildren fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams by taking him and Kathryn to his parents homeland in Norway. He also checked off a bucket list item at age 91 when he jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

Vincent is survived by his children Sandra Brandt, Arden (Debra) Engelby, David Engelby, Darwin (Dawn) Engelby, and Michelle (Allen Karge) Engelby; grandchildren Shane (Liz) Brandt, Cory (Sarah) Brandt, Scott (Elis) Brandt, Shawn Marie ( Shawn Michael) Cochran, Brian Engelby, Chad (Laura) Engelby, Robyn McComb, Amber Engelby, Heather (Adam) Quimby, Sara (Shane Chapek) Engelby, Brady (Ashley) Engelby, Christopher Karge, and Noah Karge; great-grandchildren Alysha (Ryan) Patterson, Kaden, Kesley, Kora, Kinnick, Nephi, Kyrie, Kason Brandt (3 adoptions to be), Truman and Iris Brandt, Jax Brandt, Brynja and Leighton Cochran, Bryson Engelby, Carter McComb, Kyler and Liam Quimby, Blake Schulz, Chase Karge, and McKinlee Engelby; Maryls Siebert (you are my sunshine); nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn; two granddaughters Jodie Brandt and Hannah Engelby-Karge; grandson Lee Brandt, son-in-law Sherwin Brandt; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
