"Myrtle Jane Johnson was born to parents, Andy and Vollie Bjelland Engelby, in Rome Twp., Faribault County, MN, January 4, 1921. She was baptized March 6, 1921 and confirmed November 11, 1934 in Rake, IA. She attended school in rural Faribault County and graduated from High School in Rake in 1937. She married Milton Johnson at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, IA, on March 22, 1953. They lived at various times in Lake Mills, Ames, Britt, Decorah, Elkader, Ottuma, all in Iowa. In 1994 they moved to Albert Lea, MN and most recently moved to Monona, IA in August 2001.

Myrtle held several jobs prior to getting married including house work, waitress, store clerk and Deputy County Auditor in Winnebago County, IA. She worked for the Auditor for a year or so after marriage and then concentrated on raising their five children. Later she was secretary for eleven years to Milton who was the Executive Director of the National Association of County Engineers."
