Minnie H Bates died on December 27, 1974 at the Lake Park Care Center at the age of 89. Funeral services were held December 30, 1974 at 1:30pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. Rev. Wayne Brinkman officiating. Burial was in the Ocheyedan cemetery with Walton Funeral Home in charge of the services.

She was born May 2, 1885 in Tea, South Dakota, to Ben and Helena Akkerman. On December 18, 1912, she was united in marriage to Fred Bates in Sibley. They lived most of their lives in Osceola County. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran and Ladies Aid; and was also a member of the Legion Auxilary.

Survivers include six children: Helen, (Mrs. Clarence King), of Bigelow, Minnesota, Dorothy, (Mrs. George Frick), of Ocheyedan, Mervin of Ocheyedan, Myrtle, (Mrs. John Dirks), of Ocheyedan, Eugene of Milford, and Opal, (Mrs. Albert Horning), of Audubon.; three brothers, George of Los Osos, California, Harry of Willow Lake, South Dakota, Mike of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mrs. Jennie Hilton of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Annie Gerken of Tea, South Dakota. She was preceeded in death by one sister and four brothers.
