Services were held Monday afternoon at 2 pm in the Congregational Church in Ocheyedan for John Ben Akkermann, 76, who died Friday at the home of his sister, Minnie Bates of Ocheyedan. The Rev. Daniel Hummel, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Ocheyedan Cemetery. Walton Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

John Ben Akkerman was the son of Arend Akkerman and Lena Wheelhouse Akkerman. He was born April 27, 1884 at Lennox South Dakota. At the age of 9, he came with his parents to Osceola County, where he grew to manhood. He spent most of his life on farms in Minnesota and Iowa until three years when he moved to Ocheyedan, to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Minnie Bates, where he lived until the time of his passing.

He is survived by a brother and sister, four half brothers, a half sister, and a step sister. Preceeding him in death were his parents and one sister.
