Raymond Hippen obituary:

Raymond Arnold Hippen died of cancer on June 7, 2001, at the age of 71.

He was born November 13, 1929 in Grundy County, the son of Mattie (Riebkes) and Jake Hippen. He attended rural schools in Germany Township and worked as a farmhand.

On May 18, 1948, he married Mary Abbas at East Friesland Presbyterian Church near Ackley, Iowa.

Raymond and Mary were members of Ackley Christian Reformed Church and later transferred membership[ to the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. On May 18 of 2001, Raymond and Mary celebrated 53 years of m arriage.

Raymond and Mary farmed northwest of Wellsburg till 1972, then moved to W ellsburg. His hobbies were leather craft and woodworking, items of which were displayed at Camp Sunnyside and made as gifts for his family. He also enjoyed fishing., hunting, reading, and computer research.

Raymond is survived by his wife Mary; a daughter Marilyn and husband Jerry Adelmund of Parkersburg; a son Arnold and wife Pat of Flandreau, SD ; a daughter Donna and husband Harold Crosser of Iowa Falls; a brother Delbert of Wellsburg; a sister Anna Marie Card of Parkersburg; seven gra ndchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Ella; and son-in-l aw Tony Woodley.

Funeral services were held at United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Grundy County, Iowa on Monday June 11, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Harold Miller officiating. Karen Meyer was organist. Richard Schafer was vocalist, singing "He Walked on Water". Congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace". Pallbearers were Aaron Putze, Terry Gnade, Steve Hippen, Eric Hippen, Kenny Abbas, Larry Harken. Ushers were John Hoodjer and Harlan Kolthoff. Flower committee was Bonnie Christians and Dorothy Hippen . Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg, Grundy County, Iowa.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements."
