"Edward Abels Weds Ruth Sunde of Norway
The marriage of Ruth Sunde of Stavanger, Norway and Edward Abels, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Abels, Sr., was read at the Zion Lutheran parsonage at Rake, Iowa on Saturday, January 10, 1948 at _0 p.m. by the Rev. R. L. Holleque. The couplewere attended by Mr and Mrs. John Abels, Jr., brother of the groom. Following the ceremony, a three course dinner was served at the home of the bride's sister and brother-ih-law, Mr. and Mrs. Nordy Nelson to twenty-five rekatuves andfriends.
The bride wore a wine color street-length dress. Her corsage was of white carnations. She wore a string of pearls, a gift of the groom. Her attendant wore a brown suit and a corsage of pink carnations. The groom wore a brown suit, hisfather wore a navy blue suit.
After a short honeymoon the couple will make their home on the John Abel's Sr., farm.
Mr. Elvin Sunde of Stavanger, Norway and Mr. and Mrs. John Abels, Sr., attended the wedding.
The bride has been making her home wth her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Nordy Nelson since coming from Norway in August _." <>

Edward Abels, 89, of Bonduel, WI, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on August 6, 1918 in Jewell, IA, he was the son of Dutch immigrants, John and Johanna (Meyering) Abels, Sr. He was raised andworked on the family farm in Buffalo Center, IA. After attending mechanics school, he worked for Jensvold, Inc. as a mechanic. During WWII, Edward served his country with the Army's 44th Calvary, Reconnaissance Squadron, returning homein August of 1945 and resuming his work on the family farm with his parents.
On January 10, 1948 he was united in marriage to Ruth Sunde of Stavanger, Norway in Rake, IA. After their marriage, the couple continued farming until moving their family to Suring, WI to operate their own dairy farm. The couple workedtogether on the farm until retiring in 1973 and moving to Bonduel. Edward then went to work at Carver Boat until officially retiring, although he still continued to help his son on the farm.
Edward and Ruth enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the United States and Canada. They spent many winters in McAllen, TX and visited Mexico on numerous occasions. The last five years they had a quiet life in Bonduel, no longer ableto travel. Edward's greatest joy in life was his wife and his family. He especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren. In January of 2008, he celebrated 60 years of marriage to Ruth and also the arrival of his firstgreat-grandchild.
Edward is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Linda (Rod) Eisenhauer of Appleton, WI, Joyce (Ron) Erickson of Pulaski, WI; one son, Stan (Candee) Abels of Kaukauna, WI; six grandchildren, Scott Abels, Eric (Susan) Eisenhauer, Adam(fiancée, Rana Wunderlich) Eisenhauer, Angie Erickson, Jeff Erickson; and one great-grandchild, Henry Eisenhauer.
Edward was preceded in death by one grandson, Kurt Abels; his parents; two brothers, John (Ann) Abels, Jr., Joe (Cora) Abels; and 1 sister, Jenny (John) Smidt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Zion United Methodist Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Jerry Cho officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Suring. Family and friends maycall at the church on Saturday after 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel is assisting the family with the arrangements."

"Here From Norway To Visit Sister
Mr. Elvin Sunde of Stavanger, Norway arrived here Saturday, January 10th, for a visit in the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Nordy Nelson. He left Norway on New Year's evening and landed in New York on January 8th, arriving at Garner onJanuary 10th. He arrived just in time to attend his sister's wedding."
