"Funeral Services Held Friday for Mrs. Johanna Abels

Abels, 84, of Buffalo Center were held Friday morning, August 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. Rev. Jay Warren officiated. Mrs. Jay Warren was organist and Susan Elman, soloist. Interment was in OlenaMound cemetery. Winter Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were David Abels, Donald Abels, Stanley Abels, Ronald Abels, Richard Smidt and Alvin Smidt.

Johanna Abels, daughter of John and Everdena Meyering, was born at Bellingvolde, Holland, on November 10, 1889. She grew up in Bellingvolde and was there united in marriage to John Abels on June 3, 1911. In 1913 John and Johannaimmigrated to the United States and located at Kamrar, Iowa where they began their occupation of farming. In 1920 the family moved on a farm near Buffalo Center where they made their home until 1948 when they retired from the farm andmoved to Buffalo Center, Iowa. Mrs. Abels was a member of the First Congregational Church of Buffalo Center.

She passed away at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center on August 19, 1974, having attained the age of 84 years, 9 months and 9 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one daughter, Jennie; twosisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Abels is survived by three sons: John of Thompson; Joe of Buffalo Center; and Edward of Bonduel, Wisconsin. Her surviving brothers and sisters"
