"John, Jr. and Anna (Eisenhauer) Abels

John Abels, Sr. was born August 4, 1890 at Nieuweschans, Groningen, Holland. He spent his boyhood there. He married Johanna Meyering at Bellingvolede, Holland and established their home; John Jr. was born there. John, Sr.'s father(Opa) came to the U.S. first and two years later, in 1913, John, Sr. followed them to Kamrar, Iowa, but Johanna (Oma) would not go unless her brother, Jerry would come too. (See Heiko Meyering article.) The Henry Dontje's, who came tothe U.S. with them, moved from Kamrar to Buffalo Center first and liked the area and told the Meyerings, so in 1918 they aloso moved to the George Johnson farm (where Hank Dohlman lives). Two years later, in 1920, John and Johanna andchildren John, Jr., Joe, Jennie, and Edward moved on another George Johnson farm (where Dave Abels lives now) and they farmed there. They retired in 1948 and John, Sr. passed away at age 62. Johanna was the daughter of John andEverdeana Meyering and was born November 10, 1889. Her sisters were Yerena and Trena (Skilbred), and brothers were Ben, Jerry, Tony, John, Henry, and Heiko. ..." <>
