"Edward Abels Weds Ruth Sunde of Norway

The marriage of Ruth Sunde of Stavanger, Norway and Edward Abels, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Abels, Sr., was read at the Zion Lutheran parsonage at Rake, Iowa on Saturday, January 10, 1948 at _0 p.m. by the Rev. R. L. Holleque. The couplewere attended by Mr and Mrs. John Abels, Jr., brother of the groom. Following the ceremony, a three course dinner was served at the home of the bride's sister and brother-ih-law, Mr. and Mrs. Nordy Nelson to twenty-five rekatuves andfriends.

The bride wore a wine color street-length dress. Her corsage was of white carnations. She wore a string of pearls, a gift of the groom. Her attendant wore a brown suit and a corsage of pink carnations. The groom wore a brown suit, hisfather wore a navy blue suit.

After a short honeymoon the couple will make their home on the John Abel's Sr., farm.

The bride has been making her home wth her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Nordy Nelson since coming from Norway in August _." <>

Ruth (Sunde) Abels, age 89, of Bonduel, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2010, surrounded by her family. Ruth was born on March 1, 1920, in Stavanger, Norway. As a teenager, Ruth helped her brothers on their farms. As ayoung lady she worked as a seamstress and sewed many beautiful clothes. After World War II, Ruth traveled to Iowa to visit her sister Ella and brother Ingvald. During that visit, she met and married Edward Abels on Jan. 10, 1948. They lived and farmed in Buffalo Center, Iowa, before moving to Suring, Wisconsin, in 1957 to operate their own dairy farm. The couple worked together on their farm until retiring in 1973 at which time they moved to Bonduel. Ruth resided in Appleton for the past 1½ years at John Fisher Manor. Ruth became a U.S. citizen on August 15, 1968, in Marinette, Wisconsin. She traveled back to her homeland one time, which was in 1970, to visit with her family. Ruth and Edward enjoyed a wonderful retirement, traveling throughout the Unites States, Canada and Mexico. They spent many winters in Texas. When they were no longer able to travel, they led a quiet life in Bonduel. Ruth and Edward shared 60 years of marriagetogether. After Edward passed away, Ruth moved to Appleton enjoying new friends, pot luck dinners and bingo. She continued sewing, crafting and reading books. Ruth's greatest joy in life was her family. She took wonderful care of herhusband during his illness and last years. She especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and her great-grandchild, who always brought a smile to her face. Ruth was a very happy and positive person with a strong Christian faith.

Ruth is survived by four children: Stan (Candee) Abels, Freedom; Linda (Rod) Eisenhauer, Appleton; Joyce (Ron) Erickson, Pulaski; five grandchildren: Scott Abels, Eric (Susan) Eisenhauer, Adam (Rana) Eisenhauer, Angie Erickson, JeffErickson; a great-grandson, Henry Erickson; brother, Edvin Sunde from Norway; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Sunde from Forest City, IA.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Edward on April 13, 2008; grandson, Kurt Abels; her parents, Kornelius and Elida Kristiansen Sunde; and 10 siblings, Karl, Ella, Konrad, Ingvald, Magnus, Klara, Osvald, Elsa, Oystein, andKarstein.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Zion United Methodist Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Jerry Cho officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Suring. Family and friends may call atthe church on Friday after 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
