"Klaas Meyer, 76

Funeral services for Klaas Meyer, 76, of Buffalo Center were held Saturday afternoon. July 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. William Peake officiating. Mr. Meyer passed away Thursday, July 10 at a Mason City hospital. Winter Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements and interment was in Olena Mound Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Tim Berschman, Ron Berschman, Paul Steffensen, Doug Aukes, Robert Stoltz and Larry Ernster. Honorary casketbearers were Henry Hofbauer, Henry Van Gerpen, Joe Johnson, Harry Honken, Wade Dorenbush and John Bruhns. Carole Kettwick was the organist and music was by Warren and Duane Feldick and congregational singing.

Klaas Meyer, son of Wilhelm and Trintje (Ahrends) Meyer was born on November 23, 1909 in Bunderhammrich, Germany. In 1928 he came to America.

He was united in marriage to Anna Hornak on December 9, 1933 at Alexandria, South Dakota. They farmed for 35 years and on retiring in 1969 moved into Buffalo Center.

Klaas is survived by his wife, Anna; three brothers. Carl of Lakota, Trino and Herman both of Germany, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Erna Meyer of Lakota, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one infant son, William, two brothers and two sisters."

When I was looking for information about Klaas, I found out a few things you may not know. Klaas and his brother Carl must have made a trip back to Germany. They arrived in New York on 12 March 1931, on the Breman. The name and address of their nearest relative was: "Father, Wilh. Meyer, Bunderhammrich, EASTFRSLD." The date of their last departure from the USA was 25 Nov 1930. On 17 Oct 1949, Klaas and Anna arrived in New York on the Noordam. They must have been to Germany to visit their relatives. ..."
