"William "Bill" Smidt

William "Bill Smidt, 85, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on November 12, 2013 at Vitas Hospice Care in Kansas City, MO. Funeral service was held November 16 at Tri-City Ministries, Independence, MO. Burial was in Swan Lake Memorial Park, Grain Valley.

Bill was a farmer in northern Iowa for over 30 years, following which time, he moved to Wisconsin and Missouri, where he pursued a successful career in dietary management, serving as the Missouri president of Certified Dietary Managers for many years. He was a constant leader in his local church, dedicated to furthering the work of overseas missions, and was known for his beautiful high tenor voice in duets with his brother Pete, and in quartets and choirs. He was achampion of many things, from Golden Glove boxing as a young man, to fighting his long battle with cancer. A remarkable gentleman, husband, father and grandpa, he was also a champion of living the fruits of the spirit.

Survivors include: his wife of nearly 60 years, Arvilla Smidt; daughters, Kathy Renander and her husband, Jack; Ginny Noblet and her husband, Rob; Joyce King and her husband, Tim; son, Jon Smidt and his wife, Lisa; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Peter Smidt and Jane Berschman.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Jasper and Bertha Smidt; infant son, Billy Jay Smidt.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Bible Church, 4963-B NE Goodview Circle, Lee's Summit Missouri 64064, and contributions will be wired to Bill's favorite mission family in Russia.

Chapel of Memories Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements."
