Peter showed the naturalization paper of his father, Jasper H. Smidt. The sponsor was John Steenhardt. There is a Jan Klaas Steenhardt family 1331 in the Ditzumerverlaat OSB married to Aaltje Jasper Smidt. Peter knew John Steenhardt to be Jasper's uncle. That would make Aaltje Jasper Smidt the aunt by blood of Jasper H. Smidt. Aaltje is listed as a child of Jasper Harms Smidt & Grietje Emme Riekena 1304.

That would make Jasper H. Smidt's father, Harm Jaspers Smidt the brother or half brother of Aaltje Jasper Smidt.

Jasper Harms Smidt had another son named Harm Jasper Smit who died 31.10.1861. It would seem then that Jasper H. Smidt's father was given the same name as his older brother who died in 1861. Jasper H. Smidt's father would have been born in 1861 or later.

It is possible that the year of birth for the older Harm Jasper Smit of 1840 is wrong. It might mean also that Jasper Harms Smidt had a wife before Grietje Emme Riekena. It is also possible Grietje had children over a 20-year span.

My hypothesis: Jasper Harms Smidt had a wife who bore him Harm Jasper Smit in 1840. Sometime after that, the wife died, then he married Grietje Emme Riekena. The younger Harm Jaspers Smidt was born to Grietje.
