Mildred Ann Aukes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Aukes became the bride of Donald D. Dontje, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dontje Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
The wedding took place at the Fiist Congregational church, Buffalo Center with the Rev. J. D. Engels officiating. During the ceremony Miss Erika Bakker sang "Because" and "The Wedding Prayer" and David Dontje sang "Oh Perfect Love". Theywere accompanied by Mrs. Walter Aukes. Palms, candelabra and baskets of mums graced the altar of the church, white bows and lighted tapers decorated the bridal path.
For her wedding the bride chose to wear a gown of rosepoint lace over taffeta. The floor length gown was made with a closely fitted bodice, long sleeves of lace that came to a bridal point at her wrists, self covered buttons down the backand a jewel neckline. The full skirt was of Chantilly lace and nylon net tiers with a flounce of pleated nylon over net and taffeta. Her imported illusion veil trimmed with lace fell from a bridal tiara of seed pearls and rhinestones.She carried a white orchid surlounded with red sweet heart roses. Her necklace and earrings were gifts from the bridegroom.
Mrs. Burt Weaver, was matron of honor, she wore a waltz length dress, nylon net over tearose taffeta, fashioned with a strapless bodice, matching lace bolero, and full skirt. She carried a bouquet of white mums and pompons. Bridesmaidswere: Mrs. Leonard Harms, Miss Martha Dontje and Miss Jean Beaving, they wore dresses identical to the matron of honor and their corsages were also identical. The matron of honor and bridesmaids wore matching rosebud head dresses thatwere made by Mrs. Harry Jordal. The gowns of the wedding party were made by Mrs. Jim Murra.
Mary Ann Weaver and Shery Aukes were flower girls, they wore white taffeta gowns with pink nylon net and carried baskets of lace and net, to match their dresses and headdress. Ruby and Mary Lou Aukes were candlelighters, they also woretearose ballerina length dresses with white netting and white lace trim.
John Dontje, was best man Arnold Dontje, Ray Aukes and Donald Johnson were groomsmen. Ushers were, Robert Auke and Edwin Dontje, the men in the wedding party wore white dinner jackets and black bow ties and dark trousers. Dennis Dontjeearned the rings on a white rose.

"beautifully decorated for the reception, with 250 guests attending. The three tier wedding cake was cut and served by Mrs. Ray Aukes and Mrs. John Dontje; Mrs. Don Aukes and Mrs. Arnold Dontje poured. Miss Janice Dontje registered theguests. Gifts were arranged by Mrs. Harold Kettwick, Mrs. Rollin Aukes, Mrs. Merrill Aukes and Mrs. Robert Aukes.
Guests attended from Swea City, Thompson, Woden, Lakota L,edyard, Iowa. Dodge Center Allendale, Bricelyn and Wells Minnesota.
For their honeymoon to the southern states, Mrs. Dontje donned a charcoal dress with white accessories and her white orchid from her bridal bouquet. The new Mrs. Dontje was the honored guest at a bridal shower held in the Reformed churchparlors Nov. 19. Seventy five relatives and friends were in attendance."

Funeral services for Donald ID. Dofltjfe, 69, of Potest City were held Saturday, July 3, 10:30 a.m. at First Congregatiotial Chufch to forest Citywith Rev. Albert Sny&r officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted by Forest CityAmerican Legion Post 121. Interment was at Madison township Cemetery in Forest City with Peterson Lund Fttttefal Horne of Forest City in charge of arrangements.
Music was provided by Arlene Endreland as organist and Brad Grotwold as soloist. Honorary casketbearers were Sheldon Duane Sherman, Melissa Ann Sherman, Nicole Jane Sherman, John Dontje, Arnold Dontje, Delorls Kettwick, Janice VanderZwaagand Martha Milsap. Casketbearers were Irvin Wirtjes, Bill Sankey, Daryl Lusson, Joe Redig, LaVerl Follman and David Dontje.
Donald D. Dontje, son of Herman and Jennie (troff) Dontje, was bom on April 12, 1930, in Gerled. He received Ms education in a rural school and graduated from Ledyard High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the KoreanConflict.
He married Mildred Aukes on December 2, 1955 in Buffalo Center. The couple farmed for several years in the Buffalo Center area. When Don quit farming, he began working"

"at Winnebago Industries in 1971. the family moved to Forest City shortly aftef. He retired from Winnebago in 1992 but continued working part-time until this last year. Don was a member of the First Congregational Church in Forest City.He enjoyed woodworking, using his talent to create toys for children and various pieces for family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Donald passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 1999 atNorth Iowa Mercy Hospital in Mason City following a two-vehicle accident near Mason City.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Dontje of Forest City; a daughter, Debbie Sherman and her husband, Todd, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; his mother, Jennie Dontje of Buffalo Center;, two brothers, Arnold Dontje and his wife, Velma, ofBuffalo Center and John Dontje and his wife, Leona, of Estherville; two sisters, Janice VanderZwaag and her husband, Gary, of Hospers and Deloris Kettwick and her husband, Harold, of Buffalo Center; three grandchildren, and abrother-in-law, Jerome Milsap of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Martha Milsap."
