Funeral services for John H. Dontje, 76, of Esterville were held Monday, August 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Esterville, with Pastor Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment was in Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.The Henry Olson Fuhman Funeral Home of Esterville was in charge of arrangements. John passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

John Henry Dontje, the son of Herman and Jennie (Troff) Dontje, was born March 13, 1927, in Ledyard. He graduated from Ledyard High School in 1945. On June 19, 1946, John was united in marriage to Leona Harringa in Buffalo Center.Following their marriage the couple made their home in Buffalo Center. John was employed in the feed sales business his entire working life. Later the family moved to Swea City, for a short time. In 1968, they moved to Estherville,where John was employed at Golden Sun Feeds for twenty-two years. In his spare time John emjoyed woodworking and fishing.

John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville where he had served as head usher.

Survivors include a son, Gary Dontje and his wife, Pat of Garner; one daughter, Sharon Dontje-Yell, of Estherville; three grandchildren, Todd Yell, Tena Yell, Travis Dontje and his wife, Amanda, two great-grandchildren, Zachary Dontje,Chrisma Kay Dontje,; a brother, Arnold Dontje and his wife Velma, of Buffalo Center; two sisters, Deloris Kettwick of Buffalo Center; Janice Van Der Zwaag and her husband, Gary, of Hospers; sister-in-law, Millie Dontje of Forest City;brother-in-law, Jerome Milsap of Estherville; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding John in death were his wife, Leona, who died July 6, 2004; his parents; one sister, Martha Milsap; and brother, Donald; great-grandson, Devon, and brother-in-law Harold Kettwick. Online condolences atwww.henryolsonfuneral.com.' <>
