Harold, the son of Chris and Lena Ackerman DeGroot, married Wilda Moreland. Harold served in the army during World War II. The couple lived in George all their married life. He was a carpenter. They attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.

Their children are all graduates of the local school and they are Linda (m. Daryl Mouw), Kendall (m. Linda Klingenberg and she is deceased), Kevin (m. Laura Gronewold and they Marilyn ____) and Ann (m. Steve Klaahsen)."
