Floyd Vernon Huisman, 92, of Viola, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua.

He was born June 12, 1919, in Kamrar, Iowa, to William and Lena (Greenfield) Huisman. He married Grace Smidt on April 18, 1941, at the Ramsey Reformed Church at Titonka, Kossuth County, Iowa. He operated gas stations in north central Iowa for many years. He also farmed. He loved to do fretwork wood sawing, particularly his scroll work on clocks. He also played and taught Hawaiian electric guitar. He loved bluegrass and Southern gospel quartet music. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, anything chocolate and a pipe full of Cherry Cavendish tobacco.

He is survived by one son, Ken (Janice) Huisman of Viola; four daughters, Lenora (Elwin) Johnson of Hillsboro, Kay Cunningham of Blue River, Marla Jean Huisman of Minnetonka, Minn., and Marilyn Huisman of Viola; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald (Roberta) Hu-isman of Hot Sp-rings Vi-llage, Ark.; one sister, Marjorie Pannkuk of Webster City, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Harmina Huisman of Jewell, Iowa, and Deanne Huisman of Albert Lea, Minn.; and his canine companion, Sieka.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 26, 2005; one baby daughter, Carolyn; three brothers, Sterling, Elton, and baby Wilbur; and one sister, Delores Schaa.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Sime Funeral Home in Readstown. Pastor Roy Tellier will officiate, and burial will be in the Brush Hollow Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Sime Funeral Home in Readstown on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of services.
