Mildred Heyer attended country schools and graduated from Jewell High School in 1943. In the spring of 1943 she moved with her parents to a farm at Woden, IA. She was employed by the Farmers Co-op Elevator in Woden for three and one-halfyears.

After marriage to Albert Cordes, the couple moved to Forest City where they were both employed at Eyman Implement. In 1957 they purchased the International Harvester business in Corwith, where they both worked full time. They sold thebusiness in 1971 and moved to Buffalo Center, IA. In 1977 they moved to Forest City. She was a bookkeeper for 25 years.
