"Gary E. Sleper, 70

Gary E. Sleper, 70, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka, IA, at the age of 70. He had been a resident there for 35 days under hospice care following a battle with lung cancer.

A funeral service was held Saturday, June 4 at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka with Reverand Wayne Garman officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Titonka American Legion.

Gary Edward Sleper was born June 7, 1940 in Algona, IA, son of Evert and Gertrude (Welhousen) Sleper. He grew up in Titonka graduating from Titonka High School in 1958.

Gary was united in marriage to Jeriene Meyering on June 16, 1962 in Buffalo Center, IA. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. Gary worked at UBC Lumberyard for a short timea dn became a jobber for Amoco Oil. Later heworked at K & H Coop until retiring in 2007.

Gary loved being with his family especially enjoying going to his grandson's activities. He also enjoyed having coffeee with his friends and spending time at their cabin at Lost Island. He was a retired volunteer fireman, he served onthe Titonka Chamber of

Commerce, and he was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Jeriene Sleper of Titonka; a daughter, Jeri Ann Taylor of Titonka; two grandsons, Jared James and Jace Brandon Taylor, both of Titonka; a sister, Gayle Pearson and her husband Larry of Wesley, IA; a brother,Russel Sleper of Titonka; two aunts and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Evert on August 1, 2003; his mother, Gerturde Sleper on August 3, 2009; a daughter Sandra Kay in 1969; and a sister in law Sandy Sleper in 2003.
