Dass Erbio 793 schon tot war, wie angenommen wurde, geht aus der Schenkungsurkunde Hadrians keineswegs hervor. Es ist vielmehr wahrscheinlich, dass er mit jenem Erbio identisch ist, der in Fuldaer Urkunden des ausgehenden achten und beginnenden 9. Jahrhunderts einige Male genannt wird. Vor allem aber ist er aus einer Urkunde des elsässischen Klosters Weißenburg bekannt. 808 schenkte er nämlich diesem Kloster unter der Bedingung lebenslänglicher Nutznießung für sich und seine Kinder Uado und Eugenia Besitz in Kühlendorf, in dem nach ihm benannten Hermersweiler (Erbenwilare), in Semheim, Osterendorf, Carlbach, Ottersheim, Knittelsheim und Hochstadt. Die Identität mit dem Sohne Gerolds scheint dadurch außer Zweifel gestellt, dass dieser einen Bruder Uoto hatte, der ebenfalls im Elsaß begütert war und hier an das Kloster Fulda tradierte, in dessen Urkunden auch Erbio wiederholt genannt wird.
