E: Ansegisel, geb. ca. 610, gest. ca. 662, “domesticus”, het enige document dat Angisel noemt, samen met zijn broer Choldulf, is een oude acte uit 648 van de abdij van Stavelot Malmédy opgesteld door koning Sigebert III waarin deze Angisel benoemd tot “domesticus”, een positie vlak achter de hertogen, ook was bekend dat hij getrouwd was met Begga, dochter van Pepijn de Oude,
Er bestond er een legende in de kronieken van Xanten dat Ansegil een vondeling, Gondoin, opvoedde die uiteindelijk zijn pleegouders wilde doden, dat lukte dan met Angesil maar Begga wist te vluchten, dit verhaal was onzin, het was echter wel duidelijk dat Angesil vermoord was door een Gondoin, hertog in Austrasië in 669, getrouwd met Wulfegunde, dochter van Wulfoald,de hofmeier van 662 tot 680, deze Gondoin was ongetwijfeld de kleinzoon van een machtige naamgenoot, genoemd tussen 614 en 665, gelieerd aan de hofmeier Odo, op zijn beurt vermoord door Grimoald, zwager van Ansegil; de gehele zaak wordt nu geinterpreteerd als een vendetta tussen twee concurrerende families.
