B2. Duke Adolf of Geldern, *Grave 1438, +k.a.Doornick 22.7.1477, bur Hofkerk Doorne, Utrecht; m.Brugges 28.12.1473 Catherine de Bourbon (*Liege ca 1442 +Nijmegen 21/22.5.1469, bur St.Stevens Kerk, Nijmegen)

(*12.02.1438, †Doornik/Tournay 27.06.1477), wurde am 15.03.1439 zu Arnheim getauft, nahm 20.01.1465 seinen Vater gefangen und wurde so Herzog von Geldern, bis er selbst 1471 von Karl den Kühnen von Burgund gefangen genommen wurde (1471-1477). Nach sechsjähriger Gefangenschaft 1477 von den Flamen befreit, fiel er kurz darauf bei Tournay. Er heiratete am 28. Dezember 1463 in Brüssel Katharina von Bourbon, (*ca. 1440, †Nimwegen 21.05.1469, beigesetzt in der St. Stefanskirche zu Nimwegen), Tochter des Herzogs Karl I. von Bourbon (1401-04.12.1456) und der Agnes von Burgund (1407-01.12.1476).

Sohn des Grafen Arnold von Egmont  und der Katharina von Kleve, Tochter von Herzog Adolf I.
Adolf von Egmont stand an der Spitze einer Verschwörung, die 1465 seinen Vater stürzte und ihn auf Schloß Büren in harter Haft hielt. Karl der Kühne von Burgund zwang ihn, seinen Vater freizulassen und nahm Adolf wenig später selbst gefangen. Nach Karls Tode in Freiheit gesetzt, stellten ihn die Genter an die Spitze einer Partei, die die Heirat mit Maria von Burgund erzwingen wollte, doch fand Adolf bald darauf bei der Belagerung von Tournay den Tod.

Hij kwam in conflict met zijn vader en trad na 1456 samen met zijn moeder in verbinding met Filips 'de Goede' van Bourgondië, nam op 9 jan. 1465 zijn vader gevangen in het slot Buren en volgt hem op. Karel de Stoute bevrijdde echter zijn vader en op 19 nov. 1465 doet Adolf gedwongen afstand.
Hij was zelf van 1471-1477 de gevangene van Karel de Stoute.
Opgenomen in de Orde van het Gulden Vlies in St. Omaars in 1461.
Hij volgde in 1473 zijn vader in naam op als hertog van Gelre en graaf van Zutphen en Kessel.
Hij werd in 1477 door de Vlamingen bevrijd en sneuvelde op 27 juni 1477 voor Doornik.
