Mit Gerhard I. von Rieneck sterben die Rienecker Grafen männlicher Linie 1108 aus. Seine einzige Tochter heiratet den Grafen Arnold von Looz (1101-1139). Dieser erbt den ganzen Besitz der Rienecker und um 1156/57 übernimmt die Familie den Namen "von Rieneck".

Door zijn huwelijk met de enige dochter van graaf Gerard van Mainz werd hij tevens burggraaf van Mainz (D) in 1115 en heel waarschijnlijk ook graaf van Rieneck (D).
Gehuwd circa 1100 met N.N. Dochter van Gerard van Mainz burggraaf van Mainz en vermoedelijk ook graaf van Reineck.
