Abele en Nellie, buurjongen en buurmeisje. Heerlijke jonge jeugd. Tienertijd heet het tegenwoordig. Twee mensen tot elkaar aangetrokken. Maar twee kerken staan ertussen (Abele was namelijk niet katholiek). Consequente ouders die het er ook verschrikkelijk moeilijk mee hadden, maar de "WET" volgden. Gelukkig is het allemaal weer goed gekomen.
Abele, timmerman en meubelmaker, vertelde altijd met trots dat hij meegewerkt had aan de restauratie na de brand van de Ned.Hervormde Kerk in Joure. Zijn vakkennis en liefde voor het werken met hout en voor het zeilen maakten hem tot een bijzondere bootbouwer. Nellie heeft in de "verboden" verkeringstijd enkele jaren in Amsterdam gewerkt. Niet zo ver van Hillegom, waar Abele in dienst gelegen was. Zij werkte daar bij de bekende diamantairsfamilie Ascher, die in de Minervalaan woonde.
