Myrtle graduated from Woodburn High School and took work at Monmouth Normal School to qualify for a teaching certificate. She taught for many years before her marriage. Myrtle continued her quest for higher education after her marriage and she received her degree from University of Oregon. She helped earn her education by taking the necessary work through the Extension Service of the State System of Higher Education. She taught in the Public schools of the city of Portland for several years. She passed away February 17, 1960, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland from cancer. She met the problems of her life with high courage and fortitude. She endured the pain of a long illness and carried on her teaching most of the time.
