Notes about Alexander Duff Imlah

Alexander sailed as a member of the crew of sailing ships as a young man. He was skilled in the use of the broad axe in the shaping of large squared timbers for use in the frames of barns and other large buildings fefore the day of the sawmill. Timbers hewed by Alex provided the frame for many buildings in early days. The family lived for many years in Tillamook, Oregon, where Alex worked with crews that built the first improved roads between the coast and the Willamette Valley. They later moved to Portland, Oregon where Alex worked for the old Willamette and Steel Company, the Wentworkth and Irwin Company and other like firms. Alex passed away in Portland near his 93rd birthday. The six foot two hundred forty pound husky tipped the scale at about 135 pounds at the time of his death. He was a devout Masonic Member and Estella belonged to the Rebecca Lodge.
