Inurnment will follow at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Vinje, IA with military honors provided by the Otto Chose American Legion Post #235.
Robert Wayne Engelby was born on March 2, 1948 to parents Alvin and Mabel (Engebretson) Engelby. He grew up in the heart of Vinje, IA. Bob attended Country Schools through 3rd grade before attending public school in Lake Mills.
Bob was drafted into the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War from 1968 1970. Following his service, he returned from the Army and eventually moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, which he has called home ever since. Bob worked at Winnebago Industries for a number of years before health complications forced him to retire.
When Bob was younger, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being out in nature. Fishing eventually became Bob's passion, spending a lot of time on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea. Although he loved to tell fishing stories, we will never know where his secret fishing spots were! If he wasn't on the lake, you could probably find Bob shooting the breeze at Dave's 66. Bob was blessed to have good friends, like John and Gayle Pena, to look after him in recent years. He was also thankful for his neighbors for moving snow or helping whenever needed.
Bob is preceded in death by both parents, Alvin and Mabel Engelby; brothers, Richard Engelby (20 year retired Marine Veteran) and Don Engelby; and nephews, Thomas Engelby and Eric Engelby.
Bob is survived by his brothers, Arnie (Wanda) Engelby, Larry Engelby, and Gary (Carol) Engelby; sister in-law, Cheryl Engelby as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives.
