"Donald Engelby Obituary
Donald Lee Engelby, 55, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Vinje, IA, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at his home in Tucson. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje, IA with Pastor Chris Fiske officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will take place at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Vinje, IA. Don Engelby was born on October 28th, 1950 in Albert Lea, MN. He was the youngest son of Alvin V. and Mabel B. (Engebretson) Engelby. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje, IA. Don graduated from Lake Mills Community High School in Lake Mills, IA (1969). He graduated from Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, IA (1971) and went on to graduate from Luther College in Decorah, IA (1974). Don moved to Tucson, AZ in 1978 and worked for several years at the Randolf Golf Course for the Tucson Park and Recreation Department. He also worked for the Tucson Greyhound Park and was working for the Dorado Golf Course in Tucson at the time of his death. Don was also involved with Young Film Services and helped in the filming of many television commercials, industrial videos, television shows, and as an 'extra' in a few movie features (including Lighting Jack, Flashpoint, and Kidco). Don's great loves were playing softball and golf with his friends, and his 1973 Gremlin automobile. Don spent many years playing softball for the Krugerrands Softball team (in the Tucson City League). Many of these softball buddies became his golfing partners. Don thoroughly enjoyed working at the Durado Golf course and easily became friends to both 'local' and 'seasonal' golfers. Don is survived by five brothers, Richard and his wife Sheryl Engelby of Kiester, MN; Arnie and his wife Wanda Engelby of Forest City, IA: Larry Engelby of Albert Lea, MN; Gary and his wife Carol Engelby of Albert Lea, MN; Robert 'Bob' Engelby of Lake Mills, IA; nephew, Chris and his wife Patti and their son Blake of Center Point, IA; nieces, Stephanie Engelby and her children, Christine and Thomas of Kiester, MN; Rebecca Engelby of Shoreview MN; Jill and her husband Mike McGary of Kiester, MN and their children, Daniel, Matthew, and Travis of Kiester, MN; Jeri Moore and her children, Jason and Wendy of Forest City, IA; Jamie and his wife Jessica Zielske of Vinje, IA. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mabel Engelby; a nephew, Eric in infancy, and a niece, Robin Engelby. The Engelby family would like to give a very special thank you to Don's good friend, Vic LaFave and his wife Sue of Tucson, AZ.
