5 Jun 1785 State of South Carolina Josiah Harrelson bought 150 acres situated in the District of George Town on the North East Side of Little Peedee River for Three Pounds Ten Shilling Sterling.

Will of Josiah Harrelson

In the Name of God, Amen. I, Josiah Harrelson of Horry District, being weak in body, but of a sound disposing mind and memory, do constitute this my Last Will and Testament.

First, I most Humbly bequeath my soul to God, my maker, beseeching his gracious acceptance of it. I desire my burial may be decent, as for Such Worldly goods as God has been pleased to bless me with.

I will and bequeath as follows:

I first desire my just debts to be paid.

I give and allow the use of my plantation and dwelling house, plantation tools, household and kitchen furniture (with my stock of cattle Sheep and hogs) to the support and maintenance of my beloved wife, Mary; during her life or widowhood, and at her decease or changing of her name as I shall hereafter name.

I give and bequeath to my son, Moses, ten Dollars over and above what he has had out of my Estate.

I give and bequeath to my son, Josiah, one hundred and fifty acres of land be the same more or less. Namely being on a strait line f rom the head of Jones Branch to Rheubin Jolley's line (where he now resides); and Bare Branch, and to an agreed line between myself and John W. Norton. And also two hundred acres of land (more or less), where John Harrelson now resides; beginning at the cove where my son, John's line takes a direct East course and to be the same line East until it intersects on agreed line between myself and John W. Norton. Thence, that line to be the bounds through the grassy bay to a branch called Jones Branch. Thence, with said branch to the head thence between my plantation and Rheubin Jolley's, and So down to said Jolley's line, to the horse ford on long branch and thence a West course in the Hullum's Survey; to be Divided between my grand son, Josiah Hodge and my son, Josiah according to valuation equally between them. The dividing line; begin at the long branch and run East course to the agreed line between myself and John W. Norton. My son, Josiah to have the upper part and my grand son, Josiah Hodge the lower part.

I give and bequeath to my son, John, the plantation whereon I now reside. Up the Long Branch to the lower edge of the first cove, above the first branch cove, the plantation, and from the lower edge of said cove; a direct East course to an agreed line between myself and John W. Norton, and from the lower edge of said cove direct across long branch west to Thomas Hodge's land with each and every part of my lands, South of the line above mentioned with my plantation tools and Beaufot.

I give and bequeath to my daughter, Abigal, two hundred and fifty acres of land during her life; and after her decease to the lawful heirs of her body, whereon she now resides; adjoining lands Granted to William Watters.

I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Susanah, during her life; and after her decease to the lawful heirs of her body; the plantation whereon she now resides, containing one hundred and fifty acres, more or less, lying above the mouth of little long branch; being part of a tract of land surveyed by William Hullum and also twenty five acres on the west side of long branch; beginning at the horse ford and running the run of the branch up to the Stevens line; so as to contain the remainder of my land in the Hullum's Survey; above the two hundred acres given to Josiah Hodge and Josiah Harrelson.

I give and bequeath to my grandson, Hugh Harrelson one feather bed, and one cow, and calf.

I give and bequeath to my two Daughters, Lucrease and Patience, all my stock of cattle, hogs and sheep,(except the cow and calf given to my grandson Hugh Harrelson) that may be alive at the decease of my wife or changing of her name.

Also I give to my daughter, Lucrease, one feather bed, and quilt, and twenty five acres of land; beginning at the horse ford on the East Side of Long Branch and the run up to the dividing line between myself and McQueen; be the same more or less. And I will that the remainder of my household and kitchen furniture at the decease of my wife or changing of her name; to be equally divided between daughters, Jane, Patience, Lucrease Mary Abigal, and Susanah.

I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife Mary, Executrix and my sons, Moses and Josiah, Executors of this my last Will and Testament revoking all former wills by me made.

Witness my hand and Seal, July, the fifth Day, one thousand eight hundred and twenty two.

And also, I leave one hand mill and all my jugs and bottles to Defray the Expense of Division.
