== Biography ==
=== Birth ===Sylvanus White, son of Peregrine White and Sarah (Bassett) White was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony before 1667.Wakefield, Robert S. (editor). Sherman, Ruth Wilder and Sherman, Robert Moody (original compilers). ''Mayflower Families Through Five Generations. Volume Thirteen Family of William White.'' Third Edition. (Plymouth, Mass.: General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 2006) There are several "birth" gaps in the list of Peregrine's children. Sylvanus could easily fit into the gap between the unknown child b. about 1650 ish and Jonathan b. 1658. Born say 1655, would make him 25 in 1680, three years before the estimated birth for his son William in 1683.
=== Marrriage ===He married Deborah _____, who survived him and died after 30 June 1688 (administration of Sylvanus' estate). No further record of Deborah has been found in Plymouth County records. It has been suggested she was [[Church-380|Deborah]], daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Warren) Church, who was born in Hingham, Massachusetts, 27 Jan 1656/7, but there is no evidence of this relationship.
=== Death ===Sylvanus died in Scituate, Plymouth Colony, before 29 Jun 1688. Administration of the estate was granted to his father Peregrine White, Esq. on 30 ("the last of June") June 1688; Deborah White swore to the inventory on the same day."Massachusetts, Plymouth County, Probate Records, 1633-1967," images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-997D-J87H?cc=2018320&wc=M6BX-33D%3A337797601 : 20 May 2014), Probate records 1686-1702 and 1849-1867 vol 1-1F > image 17 of 490; State Archives, Boston.
=== Child ===#William White b. c. 1683. A well reasoned article by the late George A. Moriarty, leaning heavily on the process of elimination, presents evidence to prove Sylvanus was father of William White.Moriarty, G. Andrews. " The Parentage of William White of Dartmouth, Massachusetts." The American Genealogist.Vol 17: (New Haven, CT: D. L. Jacobus, 1940). (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org. An Obadiah White was baptized at the first church in Marshfield, 26 July 1697, who may possibly have been another child of Sylvanus."Records of the First Church in Marshfield, Mass." The Mayflower Descendant 11: 37 (1909) No further record of him has been found in Plymouth or Marshfield.
