He made bequests to his wife Lidea and to his children, Lidea, Steven, Joseph, Thomas, Judith, Mary the wife of Thomas Lapham, Sara the wife of George Sutton. [[Huckstep-2|Nathaniel Tilden's widow]] married [[Hatherly-4|Timothy Hatherly]]. Timothy made a will 20 Dec 1664, proved 30 Oct 1666. He made bequests to his wife Lydia and to her daughters, Lydia Garrett (and her children), George Sutton his wife and children, "the wife of William Bassett," widow Preble.
Nathaniel's daughter, Judith, had married Abraham Preble. Lydia Garrett and Sara Sutton were also named in Nathaniel's will. This leaves daughter, Mary, married to Thomas Lapham in 1641 and later married to William Bassett by 20 Dec 1664 (Hatherly's will).
This easily accounts for statements that the wife of William Bassett was a Tilden. But, it was his second wife Mary who was a Tilden, not his first wife Elizabeth. She was unknown.

== Biography == What Robert Charles Anderson has to say about her (GMB, p 12 (profile for William Bassett)::"[William Bassett married] (1) by 1623 (and probably by 1621) Elizabeth _____, probably also a passenger on the ''Fortune'' in 1621; she appears in no record after 1627, and may have died soon after the birth of the last child about 1634, or she may have lived until just before William Bassett married his second wife.
