Joseph Bassett, son of William (1) settled in West Bridgewater with his father and married Martha, daughter of Edmund Hobart of Hingham. Note: Only one marriage is noted and date of death is listed as 1712. Date of birth is given as abt 1629."One Bassett Family in America", by Buell Bursett Bassett, page 10. Mr. John McIlvene judged, and we agree, that this is the probable approximate date of birth of Joseph Bassett at Plymouth. If correct, he was about two years old when the family moved to Duxbury and about twenty years old when they moved again to Bridgewater. The chances are he was not married as yet. Bridgewater records are very deficient in early vital statistics. Date of birth is given as abt 1635. [
