Volume Thirteen Family of William White. Third Edition. (Plymouth, Mass.: General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 2006) pp. 10, 17-18. the son of Peregrine and Sarah (Bassett) White, was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony, about 1661 and was baptized at age 62 in the Brattle St. Church in Boston on 16 February 1723/4.Harris, Thaddeus William, "Memoranda from the Rev. William Cooper's1 Interleaved Almanacs," NEHGR Vol. 30(1876):438.(Available on Archive.org)
He married first, about 1684, Susanna, whose maiden name is unknown. With Susanna he had one child in 1685. No record of her death has been found.
His second wife was Mary, maiden name also unknown, who on 09 June 1696 was called as a witness in a Judicial Case, as "Mary, wife of Peregrine White."The American Genealogist. New Haven, CT: D. L. Jacobus, 1937-. (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org. New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2009 - .). Mrs. John E. (Available on Archive.org) Mary died after 13 March 1755 when she was named in a deed of that date.
He and his son Benoni were involved with the law in a matter of conterfeiting in 1704, when Benoni successfully engraved a plate for the printing of money. Fake 20-shilling bills had been detected early in 1704, and on 21 July 1704, Judge Sewall in his Diary states: "It begins to be known that the Bills of Credit are counterfeited, the 20-shilling Bill." Peregrine White, Benoni White his son, blacksmiths; John Brewer, carpenter, and Daniel Amos, wine cooper, were arrested. Thomas Odell, the chief culprit, however, fled to New Hampshire with the rest of the bad notes. The press on which the bills were printed had been seized by the authorities, with samples of the bad notes. About £100 worth of the fake bills had been circulated. Charges against the offenders varied, but Peregrine and Benoni seem to have struck a deal for offering testimony. It appears that Benoni was convicted of counterfeiting. The records speak of him as "a mere lad", and he was only 16. He may have escaped further actual jail time because of his testimony, though the record is not clear. Judge Sewall makes no futher mention of him and he was not named in his father's will dated in 1727, nor in the wills or deeds of any of his Marshfield relatives.Barclay, Mrs. John E., "Peregrine White, Jr., of Marshfield, Mass."
