Saartje Bloemendal wordt geboren in Amsterdam op 17 oktober 1905. Zij is de oudste dochter van Benjamin Bloemendal (1884-1932) en Pietje Mendels (1885-1943).
Saartje is soubrette(lichte sopraan, die vrolijke en opgewekte partijen vertolkt). Zij zingt in café's, begeleid door haar vader die pianist is. Haar artiestennaam is Serah. Op 11 december 1927 wordt haar zoon Benjamin geboren. Saartje is dan ongehuwd.Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid is Mozes de Vries, haar latere echtgenoot de vader van Benjamin. Zij woont op het adres Vechtstraat nummer 39.
Serah trouwt op 2 juli 1930 met Mozes de Vries, handelsreiziger en geboren in Groningen. Hij is dan 33 jaar oud. Mozes is een zoon van Salomon de Vries, geboren in Groningen op 10 augustus 1867, omgekomen in Sobibor op 21 mei 1943 en Betje Bloemendal, geboren op 13 augustus 1872 in Groningen , omgekomen op 21 mei 1943 in Sobibor.
De moeder van Mozes is een zuster van Serah's vader Benjamin.
Samen krijgen zij nog twee dochters, Betje geboren op 23 juli 1931 in Amsterdam ( zie Betje de Vries) en Sophie geboren op 2 oktober 1941 in Amsterdam.(zie Sophie de Vries)
Serah komt samen met haar man Mozes en haar twee dochters om in Sobibor op 16 juli 1942. Haar zoon Benjamin Bloemendal is omgekomen in Midden-Europa. Zijn overlijdensdatum is 28 februari 1945.
