Marianne Bloemendal, Janny, wordt op 22 juli 1920 geboren in Amsterdam op het adres Reguliersdwarsstraat 123. Zij is het 5e kind van Benjamin Bloemendal en Pietje Mendels.

Janny werkt als naaister in een atelier samen met haar jongere zus Sientje. Na de dood van haar vader Benjamin Bloemendal in 1932 raakt haar moeder overspannen en de twee jonge meisjes gaan naar het joodse meisjesweeshuis aan de Rapenburgerstraat. Lea Appel schrijft over dit weeshuis een boek: "Het brood der doden" (Baarn, 1982).
In 1943 duikt Marianne samen met haar moeder onder in Gorinchem. Na een verblijf op verschillende adressen komt zij uiteindelijk terecht in het huis van haar gemengd gehuwde zuster Betje. In juli 1943 worden zij opgepakt na verraad.(zie potret Betje Elkerbout-Bloemendal) Na een inval via het balkon van het huis, wordt de hele familie, die op dat moment aan tafel zit, opgepakt en overgebracht naar kamp Westerbork. Niet lang daarna gaat de familie op transport naar Auschwitz. Op 27 augustus 1943 wordt Marianne Bloemendal daar vermoord.
Haar zus Betje, die dan zwanger is, vernoemt haar kind, dat in Januari 1944 geboren wordt naar Marianne.Ook Betje komt om in Auschwitz.
