Voor het huwelijk werkzaam op de afdeling Buitenland van de Nederlandsche Handelsmaatschappij in Amsterdam. Tijdens en daarna werkzaam als hoofd van de afdeling Buitenlandse Correspondentie bij de machinefabriek Stork-Jaffa aan de Groeneweg in Utrecht. Daarna secretaris van Joh. Oostrom, uitvinder van gesneden rauwkost. Een onzekere toekomst bracht hem naar een handelsonderneming in rubberprodukten om daarna weer te starten bij de Nederlandse Aluminium Maatschappij als hoofd van de afdeling Correspondentie en Public Relations. Na negen jaar, door overname, ontslagen met een gouden handdruk. Daarna vanaf 1974 gewerkt op het kantoor van een parfumerie-fabriek tot de VUT op 6 mei 1986.
