Adrianus Kuyper at Boyden: Boyden Reporter August 19, 1904: Died - At his home in Orange City Wednesday evening at 10 o'clock, Ads. Kuyper, aged 75 years. Mr. Kuyper is well known here as at one time he resided on the John Heematra farm, and after awhile here started the first sale of McCormick Machinery in Boyden. He leaves 5 daughters and 3 sons, of whom we count among out citizens. Arie Kuyper, Ads. Kuyper and Mrs. D. J. DeHoogh. One son is in the ministry located at Grand Rapids, Mich., two daughters at home and two in Pella, Iowa, to mourn his loss, besides a host of friends and acquaintances. The funeral services will be held at Orange City today at two o'clock and the body laid at rest in the Orange City Cemetery by the side of his wife and two children, who have preceeded him hence. The cause of his death was cancer of the bladder from which he has been an intense sufferer since the first of the year, until death releaved him.

Sioux County, located in the northwest corner of Iowa, was formally organized on January 20, 1860. Its name is in honor of the Sioux Indian tribe, which was once prosperous in the area. Sioux means 'Snakes' or 'Little Snakes'. The first county seat of Sioux County was Calliope. It was a small village, established in 1860 with no more than 15 residents, the entire population of the county at that time.
