    in 1955 was Gab werkzaam op de tekenkamer van de Schelde, zijn functie was constructeur-groepsleider op de afdeling pijpleidingen. Zijn standplaats was het hoofdkantoor van de Schelde. Dat gebouw bestaat nog na renovatie en staat op de WillemRuysstraat in Vlissingen. In een filmopname uit 1955, in de film 'mannen tussen staal' is een paar seconde van hem te zien in de tekenkamer.

    Gab is Hervormd opgevoed, werd lid van de Gereformeerde kerk om met Lenie te kunnen trouwen. Na de verhuzing naar Vlissingen ontstond bij Gab onvrede over de gang van zaken binnen de Gereformeerde gemeente, zo vond hij dat er blijdschap mistte en vond het onnodig om op zondag altijd binnen te moeten zitten. Hij schreef hierover een brief naar de Dominee (deze brief heeft de familie nog steeds). Dat heeft niet tot het gewenste resultaat geleid, ik vermoed omdat deze discussie niet gewenst was, en al snel werd hij lid van de meer vrijgevochten Hervormde kerk waar hij zijn draai als snel vondt.

      zijn vader hield op een briefje bij waar ze allemaal gewoond hebben. Daaruit blijkt dat er op Heijplaat meerdere adressen geweest zijn, o.a. Vestastraat, Rondoplein en Mijdrechtstraat, zie lijst bij zijn vader en 2 verschillende woningen op het Alcorplein. Jaartal van verhuizingen onbekend.

      Lenie en Gab zijn na hun huwelijk op dit adres gaan wonen. Haar broer Goos woonde met zijn vrouw Ma op de etage boven hen met hun kinderen. Hun (schoon)vader Jan woonde op de bovenste verdieping. Na vertrek naar Vlissingen is haar zus Gre in datzelfde huis gaan wonen met haar man Leen en hun kinderen, zodoende ben ik daar nog regelmatig geweest in mijn kinderjaren, op bezoek bij ooms en tantes en opa.
      Op de begane grond woonde een familie waarvan de dochter jaren later toevallig opnieuw buurvrouw van Lenie werd in 's-Gravenpolder! (Helaas ben ik de naam vergeten hoewel ik haar daar wel ontmoet heb)

Notes about Gabriel Stephanus "Gab" Kroon

Gab werd geboren in de Lekstraat 24 zw te Dordrecht (ansichtkaart uit 1927 bijgevoegd). Zijn ouders verhuisde regelmatig heen en weer tussen Vlissingen en Rotterdam/Dordrecht/Heijplaat op zoek naar werk. Hij woonde na zijn Dordtse beginjaren op Heijplaat (Rotterdam). In de zomervakanties gingen alle kinderen uit het gezin naar een ander familid te Vlissingen, waar ze de hele zomer verbleven. De oorlog 40-45 bracht hij gedeeltelijk door bij zijn ouders in Rotterdam. Daar werd hij door zijn werkgever (Droogdok Rotterdam) naar Duitsland gestuurd: arbeitseinsatz. Na een verlof dook hij onder op een boerderij te Borculo waar hij op de boerderij van de familie Pelgrum verbleef. Vanwege heimwee naar zijn meisje 'Lenie" keerde hij tijdens de hongerwinter terug. Gab hield dagboeken bij in de oorlogsjaren zodat we daar nog veel over weten, een kopie er van ligt bij het NIOD. Na de oorlog wilde hij niet meer bij het Droogdok werken, was voor korte tijd politie agent maar wilde weer tekenen. Hij was inmiddels getrouwd met Lenie en had 2 kinderen toen hij in Vlissingen op de tekenkamer van de Schelde solliciteerde. Het gezin verhuisde naar Vlissingen. Woonde eerst in de Kasteelstraat 101 (bovenverdieping, foto bijgesloten) en verhuisde vervolgens naar een nieuwbouwflat in de Hendrick Berckmanstaart 4 te Vlissingen. (Deze flats zijn afgebroken en er staan nu eensgezinswoningen 2012).
Gabriel was ouderling van de Hervormde kerk (Johanneskerk, inmiddels afgebroken) en bestuurslid van de Christelijke ULO.
Gabriel overleed op 37 jarige leeftijd na een ziekte en liet zijn vrouw Lenie en 4 kinderen achter.

Kroon zijn als illustratie van de oorlogsjaren (foto's van Bochum en Borculo) gekoppeld. In het geheel is het bij het NIOD digitaal afgeleverd. De feitelijke dagboeken zijn nog in bezit van de familie maar zullen tzt aan het NIOD gegeven worden. 5-7-2021 Contactpersoon bij het NIOD is Rene Pottkamp.
